From Junglemahal : Maoist held

One person was arrested allegedly for being a Maoist linkman in Bankura district. Sahadeb Hansda,28,was arrested from Bikrampur village under Simlapal police station on Saturday,said police.

Bankura: One person was arrested allegedly for being a Maoist linkman in Bankura district. Sahadeb Hansda,28,was arrested from Bikrampur village under Simlapal police station on Saturday,said police. Acting on a tip-off,policemen raided a Maoist hideout at Bikrampur and nabbed Hasda who was wanted in at least five cases. Hansda,a resident of Bhagabandh has been remanded in police custody after he was produced before a court in Khatra.

Gunbattle at Jhargram

Jhargram: A gun battle erupted between security forces and Maoists in a jungle in West Midnapore district along the Orrisa border,police said. Following intelligence input that a group of Maoists from Bandwan and Orissa had come to Gopiballavpore to hold a meeting,a team of security forces raided the area. There was no report of any injury or casualty during the 20-minute-long exchange of firing,said Jhargram SP Gaurav Sharma. After the initial firing,the Maoists seemed to have fled away to Orrisa. We found a bag and a polythene sheet, he said.

130 kg ganja seized

Howrah: Police seized 130 kg of Ganja from an abandoned truck at Malancha Bazar in Howrah district on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off,police raided the area and spotted the truck wherein the contraband was found in large packets,said SP of Howarh. The truck has also been seized and the search is on to trace its driver and owner,the SP said.

Kangaroo dies at zoo

Kolkata: A red kangaroo died at Alipore Zoo on Sunday. It was brought to the zoo from another country in May last year.
