Farmer commits suicide in Bankura

A farmer allegedly committed suicide at Gangajalhati police station area in Bankura by consuming poison due to failure to sell his paddy crop and mounting debts.

A farmer allegedly committed suicide at Gangajalhati police station area in Bankura by consuming poison due to failure to sell his paddy crop and mounting debts.

The villagers found body of the farmer,Gopinath Bauri (35),in a nearby forest,one km from his village Barjuri. Four bottles of poison were found near his body,said a senior police official.

The farmer was rushed to Bankura Medical College hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“No suicide note has been found yet. However,the villagers claimed Bauri was debt-ridden as he could not sell his produce and suffered from depression,” he said.

Bauri’s family sources said he had taken loans at high rate of interest for paddy cultivation and was unable to sell the crop.
