Asserting that her party would come through with flying colours in the civic polls,Trinamool Congress chief and Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday raised the issue of defeunct EVM machines.
Several EVMs became defunct. We have information to believe that the machines were tampered with. This is nothing new as the CPM has been doing it (tampering EVMs) for years, Banerjee said at her Kalighat residence today, before leaving for Delhi.
Training guns on the CPM for the sporadic violence during polling,Banerjee attributed the firing by Tripura police personnel, which left a youth injured in Patuli,to CPM initiating violence.
In Jadavpur ,which is the chief ministers constituency,CPM workers jammed booths and resorted to rigging. There was violence in Jamuria in Burdwan and Garden Reach where CPM cadres tried to prevent the common man from voting, Banerjee added.
Banking on peoples blessings, the Trinamool chief said: It is because of the people that we will win. Maintaining peace was the responsibility of the administration, which failed (in performing its duties).
Senior Trinamool leader Subrata Mukherjee, who held a press conference immediately after Banerjee left, said the results will be historical.
Our results will be historical. There is a wind of change blowing in Bengal, said Mukherjee.
