Elephant death toll rises to six

While five elephants died on the spot,a pregnant had elephant sustained critical injury.

With a pregnant elephant succumbing to injuries,suffered when a speeding express train hit a herd of elephants inside near Jaldhaka bridge in Chalda forest in Jalpaiguri,the death toll rose to six,Forest department sources said Saturday.

While five elephants died on the spot,a pregnant had elephant sustained critical injury. Since the elephant could not be shifted from the spot,a medical camp was set up near the accident site.

On Wednesday a herd of around 40 elephants were crossing the railway tracks inside the Chapramari wildlife sanctuary when the Guwahati-bound passenger train hit them killing six elephants on the spot and one elephant suffered injuries.
