With the number of road accidents across the country on the rise, around 100 doctors, mostly from Kolkata, were specially trained to handle trauma cases at a workshop organised here on August 20 and 21.

The training is part of the workshop organised by the International Trauma Anesthesia and Critical Care Society (ITACCS) in partnership with Apollo Gleneagles.

Eminent trauma care specialists from UK,US and Australia attended the workshop for promoting knowledge, skills and art of traumatology among doctors from various specialised fields.

“With the rise in the number of accident cases, the requirement for an educated, informed and scientific approach towards trauma management is the need of the hour,” said Tanmoy Das,organising chairman,ITACCS and HOD of Anesthesiology,Pre-operative Medicine and Pain management,Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals.

Such international workshops are important to promote knowledge among doctors about handling trauma patients. Unfortunately in India, there is no specialised course in trauma care, said Das.

The ITACCS,a leading international multidisciplinary society dedicated to improving the care of trauma patients, has held conferences and similar workshops across the country for last 12 years. But this was a first in eastern India.
