At a press conference held on Thursday afternoon at the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) grounds, the venue of the ongoing India Fashion Week, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced that the event will be extended by a day to make up for the loss incurred on Wednesday. Called the Grand Fashion day,it is slated for March 29.
I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to everybody yesterday. The people who suffered the most are the designers and,to make up for it,we are adding an extra day, said Sunil Sethi,President,FDCI. The first day of WIFW was cancelled by the police because the organisers had not obtained a fire permit.
While designers like Ranna Gill and JJ Valaya have agreed to go ahead with their shows on March 29,Kolkata-based designers Swapan and Seema may pull out of the event, along with designer Puneet Nanda of fashion house Satya Paul. We are still mulling over the decision, but we have a prior appointment with an overseas buyer, said Swapan. The first day had got fashion heavyweights and to be showing along with them was a big deal.
Rahul Mishra, who had a two-designer slot on the opening day,is keeping his fingers crossed. It is a good gesture on FDCIs part to add a day,but nothing can compensate for shows on the opening day. There are buyers who have their flights booked already. They might not agree to stay back. I hope I get the right crowd on that day, said the Mumbai-based designer, who will unveil 35 looks at this show.
Others like Alpana and Neeraj Chauhan of the designer label Azara, and Nida Mahmood appeared happy at the outcome. I was very disappointed with the first days events, but I am glad things have fallen into place, said Mahmood.
