Cops nab terror suspect,say is ex-Pak Ranger

A suspected Pakistani terrorist,allegedly a former member of Pakistan Rangers,was arrested from Fairlie Place on Thursday.

Police said 27-year-old Shahbaz Ismail is a resident of Sumali Muhalla in the Tausa police station area of Derazikhan district in Pakistan. He has admitted to being part of a terrorist organisation. The police have,however,not disclosed the name of the terrorist outfit.

Rajiv Kumar,Joint Commissioner of Police,told mediapersons that Ismail has confessed to coming to India for terrorist activities.

However,he has said that nothing had been planned for Bengal and he was merely on his way to another terrorist-afflicted state in the country, said Kumar.

Based on his confessions,police said that Ismail had joined Pakistan Rangers in 2004,but after four years he quit the service to join a terrorist outfit. According to Ismail,his batch number was R 39409 and his last posting was at Sialkot in 2008.

He reached Dhaka from Karachi and spent considerable time there till he received further instructions from his parent terrorist organisation. He crossed over to Malda from Rajshahi and reached Sealdah on a train. The BSF had traced him at Malda and followed him to the city. Acting on the BSFs information,police arrested Ismail on Thursday afternoon.

We have also recovered a mobile phone with a Bangladeshi SIM card and some documents from him. We feel that this was the first time that he had come to the country. He was going to some specific places in the country, added Kumar.
