Congress to field Azhar from Bengal

Azharuddin , who formally joined the Congress in Ferbruary, 2009, had won from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh in the 2009 Lok Sabha election.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Adhir Choudhury Saturday confirmed that former captain of Indian cricket team Mohammad Azharuddin would be fielded as party candidate in Bengal in the parliamentary election.

After a high-level meeting with senior Congress leader C P Joshi in Delhi, Choudhury said, “Azharuddin would fight the election from Bengal. The probable constituency is Bashirhat in North 24 Paraganas. We are discussing some other constituencies for him. But as of now we have zeroed in on Bashirhat where Azharuddin.”
