The state unit of the Congress has come out in full support of party MP Adhir Choudhury who has hit out at ally Trinamool Congress for breaching courtesy in alliance politics after he was not invited to a railway function.
The party has also backed the MP from Behrampore for his decision to skip the Wednesdays inaugural function of a railway project in the district, which is likely to be attended by senior party leader and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, besides Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Adhir Choudhury is one of our most respected leaders. The people of Bengal know that he is a vital part in the struggle against CPM in the state. There can be no anti-Left agitation without him. To remain focused in the goal of ousting CPM from the state in 2011,mutual courtesy between the two parties (Congress and Trinamool) should exist, said WBPCC spokesperson Nirbed Roy in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Choudhury, who has threatened to launch a two-hour long Rail Roko at Behtampore town station from 6 am on Wednesday to protest against the Behrampore-Rampurhat double line track project, remained defiant. I have not been chosen as the MP beacause of someones mercy. People have reposed their confidence on me,so I am the MP of Behrampore, said Choudhury as he lashed out at Trinamool leaderband Sreerampore MP Kalyan Banerjee who had said yesterday that he should ask his party chief Sonia Gandhi to make him a minister for getting invitation to attend railway functions.
This kind of comment can only make those persons who have got the MPs seat as the mercy of any Didi. An MP should maintain some courtesy while he is commenting on another MP, added Choudhury and alleged that the Trinamool leader was tutored by Mamata Banerjee to make such statement.
I dont know what will happen to the alliance with Trinamool after such a comment from an MP, said Choudhury.
Project itself is a gimmick: CPM
*With the Trinamool and Congress MPs engaged in a verbal duel, the CPM on Tuesday said the railway project which has generated such a controversy is nothing more than a gimmick.
Time and again we have sent petitions to Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee asking her for a number of rail projects urgently needed in the district. Nothing has been done till date. This poject, which falls in the constituency of Pranab Mukherjee,is a mere gimmick. It will not benefit the people of Murshidabad, said Mriganka Bhattacharya,CPM district committee member of Murshidabad.
