The Bengal unit of the Congress on Sunday demanded that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee make it crystal clear whether her party, the Trinamool Congress, would support the BJP in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Stating that Mamata is prone to switching sides, senior state Congress leader Manas Bhunia, while addressing party workers in Kolkata, said: She (Mamata) is used to switching sides. Sometimes allying with the Congress and sometimes with the BJP. Make it clear to the people of Bengal either through a press conference or at a public rally whether your party is going to support the BJP or not (in the next Lok Sabha elections).
Two days ago while speaking at a rally,Mamata had said she will not support BJP leader Narendra Modi, who has been anointed by his party to lead the poll campaign.
Was it not true that you (Mamata) had sent flower bouquets to Mr Modi when he won the Assembly elections in Gujarat? asked Bhunia, who was in Mamatas cabinet before the two parties snapped their ties.
The Congress leader said by pushing for a federal front,Mamata is nursing the desire to become the Prime Minister and added that in a country of 28 states and 85 crore voters, the idea of a federal front could never be realised.
He also accused the Chief Minister of mounting repeated insults on Congress party and its leaders. Recently,Mamata had said that all Union Congress ministers of Bengal would become beggars after the panchayat polls in the state. Accusing Mamata of using the Congress to win the 2011 Assembly elections in the state and then severing the ties on her whims and fancies,he said: We contested 65 seats in the Assembly elections and won 42 of them . Had we contested the polls on 98 seat,s which as the party president I had demanded,we would have won 70 and Mamata Banerjee would have to stand at the doors of Sonia Gandhi seeking her support.
State Congress President Pradip Bhattacharya also asked people to unite against the misrule of Trinamool regime.
Time has come for the people to unite against Trinamools misrule. The two girls of Kamduni had shown the way. Trinamool can never make a turnaround as Congress is no longer with them, Bhattacharya said.
