BJP MP Dilip Ghosh on Sunday hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said she should be summoned by central probe agencies as she was the “real kingpin of all scams”.
Addressing a street corner meeting at Kharagpur, Ghosh said, “Here, state ministers and ruling party MLAs are in jail. In Delhi, two ministers are in jail. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Then why won’t Didi (Mamata Banerjee) be summoned by agencies? If her family members are summoned by agencies then why should she be spared? She is the real kingpin of all scams.”
The BJP leader’s comments come at a time when several TMC MLAs and state ministers are in jail for their alleged involvement in multiple scams in the state. In Delhi, CM Arvind Kejriwal was recently summoned by probe agencies for questioning in alleged connection with the excise policy case.
Targeting Mamata Banerjee, the Kharagpur MP further said, “The CBI should call her for a cup of tea. She must taste the hot tea served by the CBI. I feel that she will get such an opportunity next year. But that should happen as soon as possible as the people of Bengal also want that. Jyoti Priya Mallick and Partha Chatterjee said that she knows everything. If they have information about her then she must be probed. In the New Year, many will land in jail.”
Reacting to Ghosh’s allegations, Trinamool Congress state vice-president Jay Prakash Majumdar said central agencies are being “misused” by the BJP. “BJP leaders are issuing forecast of what the agencies will do in the near future. In most cases, such forecast are coming true. Today, Dilip Ghosh is saying that Mamata Banerjee will be summoned. Therefore, it is clear that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), ED and Income Tax department have become BJP’s frontal organisations. The party is misusing them,” said Majumdar.
In October, the ED arrested state minister Jyoti Priya Mallick in connection with alleged irregularities in ration distribution in the state. Last year, central agencies had arrested state minister Partha Chatterjee, party MLAs Manik Bhattacharya and Jiban Krishna Saha in connection with the school jobs scam. Besides, heavyweight TMC leader Anubrata Mondal is currently in Tihar jail for his alleged involvement in the cattle smuggling case.
