LEADER OF Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Friday alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may have misused the power of her office to “influence” the tender process of two government departments to award the work order to a company that is associated with another firm that provides political consultancy and other services to her party.”

The TMC, however, denied the allegation, terming it as “false” and “fictitious.”

Adhikari also wrote to Governor C V Ananda Bose, urging him to look into the matter and take action. He wrote, “I would like to draw your attention towards a tender floated by the Webel Technology Limited (WTL) that reeks of corruption and points towards the involvement of the highest administrative authority of the state of West Bengal. I have received information from multiple officials of government departments which raises suspicion that the Chief Minister of West Bengal might have misused the power of her office to influence the tender procedure of two government departments with malafide intention in order to award the work order to a company that is associated with the one which provides political consultancy and other services to her party.”

The WTL authorities did not immediately react to the allegations.

Adhikari claimed, “The West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Cooperation Limited (WBEIDCL); nodal agency of the department of Information Technology and Electronics (DIT&E); Government of West Bengal, placed a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Setting up a Dedicated Call Centre for Monitoring of Program Implementation & Grievance Cell on 5th August 2022…”

According to him, three companies participated in the tender process. The technical and financial bids placed by these three companies were accepted and after the technical evaluation, financial evaluation and combined evaluation of weighted scores the companies were ranked. However, things went awry after this, claimed Adhikari. In November 2022, due to some “mysterious” administrative reasons/issues, the whole tender process was cancelled by West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Cooperation Limited (WBEIDCL).
WBEIDCL authorities did not react on the matter.

Adhikari alleged that in January 2023, WTL, under the control of the department of personnel and administrative reforms invited bids for setting up a dedicated call centre for monitoring of implementation and grievance cell. Basically the intention behind floating this tender by WTL was identical to the one previously floated by WBEIDCL.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “His allegations are completely false, fictitious. No opportunity was given to anyone in the tender. The applicants got the task in the respective tender as per the rules. Suvendu should be immediately taken into custody and interrogated by central agencies in Saradha scam case.”
