CID files chargesheet against Gautam Deb,17 others in land scam case

While,Basu is yet to be interrogated,Deb has already appeared before the CID in July.

The CID Tuesday filed a chargesheet against former housing minister and HIDCO chairman,Gautam Deb and 17 others in connection with irregularities during the previous Left Front government’s regime.

An FIR alleging a land scam was lodged with Talatala police station in the central division in April alleging loss to exchequer due to certain deals between a private partner and the Left front government.

The CID,after five months submitted the chargesheet including 61 pages to special court in the Bankshal court.

On April 2,housing board secretary Ajay Dutta had lodged a complaint with the police alleging serious “financial anomalies” in the transactions of Bengal Greenfield Housing Development Corporation Ltd.

The company was one of the eight real estate firms with which the state government had entered in to joint venture for housing projects.

Deb was part of the investigation into an alleged land scam in which Chandan Basu,son of former chief minister Jyoti Basu,is said to have been a beneficiary. The FIR was lodged against 17 persons including Gautam Deb and Chandan Basu.

Sources said Deb has been held responsible for selling a plot at parui mouza in Budge Budge for Rs 16 crore,in which the government lost Rs 21.37 crore. The chargesheet,however,does not include the name of Chandan.

While,Basu is yet to be interrogated,Deb has already appeared before the CID in July.
