Four Trinamool workers, who were arrested on February 25 in connection with the murders of two CPM leaders in Burdwan, were remanded in the custody of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for two days by a Burdwan court on Monday.
Interestingly, the district police did not seek remand of the accused when they were produced before the court on February 26. Soon after taking charge of the investigation at the direction of Calcutta High Court, the CID on Monday filed a petition before the chief judicial magistrates court in Burdwan, seeking custody of the four – Choton Chakraborty,Patit Paban Tah,Surajit Tah and Bhupal Goswami. The four were produced before the court amid tight security.
The lawyers of the accused opposed the CIDs petition. Hearing both sides, the magistrate ordered CID remand of the four who were arrested from the spot where two CPM leaders Pradip Tah and Kamal Gayen were brutally hacked to death.
On Saturday, four CID officers of the agencys homicide section examined the documents relating to the case and interrogated the four accused at Burdwan district jail. Later, the CID decided to file a petition before the Burdwan court seeking custody of the four.
