Kolkata:Bankura and Daspur in the Maoist-hit district of West Midnapore will on Tuesday go to the polls necessitated by the death of TMC legislators there.
Kashinath Mishra of the TMC had won the Bankura seat last year by defeating the CPM,while Ajit Bhunia of the TMC had defeated the CPM in Daspur. Since both the seats were won by TMC,the party is confident of retaining them this time too,notwithstanding the infighting at Daspur over the choice of Ajit Bhuniya’s wife Mamata Bhuniya as a candidate from there. Kashinanth Misra’s wife Minati has been fielded as a candidate by TMC in Bankura. The CPM has fielded Samar Mukherjee in Daspur constituency and Nilanjan Dasgupta in Bankura seat. The BJP too,has fielded its candidates in both the seats. Its only the Congress which has not fielded its candidates.
Kalyani: TMC rift in civic body
Kalyani:Around 10 TMC councillors of Kalyani Municipality in Nadia district moved a no confidence motion against TMC chairman of the municipality Pradip Kumar Sur on Monday. The Kalyani Municipality has a strength of 20 councillors. 14 belong to the TMC,one is of the Congress and the rest five are of the Left Front.
Soon,law to protect surface water
Kolkata:The state government will enact two laws to ensure supply of arsenic and fluoride free water and the other to prevent indiscriminate use of surface water. Minister for Public Health and Engineering Subrata Mukherjee said the Bills will be passed in the next Assembly session. The decision to enact two law was taken after it was found that there was indiscriminate use of surface water by various NGOs.
Mobile offices for insurance launched
Kolkata:Office on Wheels an initiative of National Insurance Ltd was launched in Kolkata on Saturday with a view to expanding its reach here. The air conditioned mobile vehicles will be equipped with work stations,visitor seats,computers,printers among other things.
