Congress MLA Bayron Biswas, who won the Sagardighi Assembly bypoll earlier this month, on Wednesday took oath as a member of the House in the Legislative Assembly.
Biswas wrested the minority-dominated Sagardighi Assembly constituency from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and emerged as the only Congress MLA in the state after the party failed to open its account in 2021 state Assembly polls. The Left Front had extended its support to Biswas. Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee administered the oath to Biswas on Wednesday, 20 days after he won the election. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sandhya Rani Tudu was the only TMC MLA who was present at the oath-taking ceremony, along with a few BJP MLAs and senior Congress leaders.
Speaking to mediapersons , Biswas said, “Just because I am a Congress MLA, it took 20 days to organise my oath-taking ceremony. The people gave me the mandate to serve them. I will fight for their issue. I would uphold my party’s views and fight against the corrupt TMC government .”
