The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit a list of assets of the chief executive officer and directors of Leaps and Bounds, a private company under the ED scanner in the alleged school jobs scam, within a week. The single bench of Justice Amrita Sinha also told ED to produce the list of assets of the company from the date of its inception.

According to ED, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee is CEO of Leaps and Bounds Private Limited and was a director in the company from April 2012 to January 2014.

The ED, which is probing the money laundering aspect of the alleged irregularities in the appointment of staff in government-aided schools in West Bengal, has claimed that Leaps and Bounds received kickbacks in the scam. In May, ED had arrested Sujoy Krishna Bhadra, claiming that he was the chief operating officer of the company.

On Wednesday, following his questioning by ED, Abhishek Banerjee told the media: “Yes, I am still the CEO of Leaps and Bounds. Some news companies are making sensational headlines claiming that money from the recruitment scam went to Leaps and Bounds. I ask them and the central agencies to prove and substantiate their claims and not put out false information.”

The bench of Justice Amrita Sinha today directed ED to submit the report by September 21 and also directed the agency to submit property details of other directors of the company, whose name has recently surfaced in the investigation in the school jobs scam.

Meanwhile, the HC gave verbal assurance to ED that no coercive police action would be taken against them in a case of alleged manipulation in the probe. An employee of Leaps and Bounds had lodged a complaint with the cyber crime division of Kolkata Police, accusing the probe agency of “planting false evidence”.
