Students celebrate at a school in Kolkata, Wednesday. Express THE WEST Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) on Wednesday announced the higher secondary (class 12 state board) examination results with a record 89.25 per cent candidates clearing the exams.
This year, a total of 8,52,444 students enrolled for the exam, of whom 8,24,891 students appeared in the exam. Of these, 7,37,807 students cleared the exams that were held from March 14 to 27 in 2,349 centres across the state.
The pass percentage among male students is 91.86 per cent while the same for female students is 87.26 per cent.
Subhrangsu Sardar of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya in South 24 Parganas district topped the exam, scoring 496 marks out of 500 (99.2 per cent).
The second rank was shared by Susama Khan of Bankura Banga Vidyalaya in Bankura district and Abu Sama of
Ramakrishnapur Pramode Dasgupta Memorial High School in Uttar Dianjpur district. Both of them secured 495 marks, that is 99 per cent. The third rank was shared by four candidates.
WBCHSE president Chiranjib Bhattacharya told mediapersons, “Those who appeared in this year’s higher secondary examination did not appear in Madhyamik examination (class 10 state board) exam in 2021 as the same was not held that year due to Covid-19 pandemic situation. This year the HS results have been declared in 57 days after concluding the exam. In 2024, the HS exam will be held from February 16 to 29.”
The class 10 state board exam was not held in 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic. All students who had enrolled for the class 10 board exam in 2021 were declared successful.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the successful candidates. “Let every day in your life be filled with successes,” she said in a tweet. State Education Minister Bratya Basu also congratulated the students and said, “Make Bengal and Bengalis proud.”
This year, 52,878 students (6.66 per cent of total success students) scored 80 per cent and above marks. Total 2,73,580 students (38.65 per cent of total successful students) scored 60 per cent and above marks.
The pass percentage among students belonging to minority communities is 87.58 per cent while the same for students belonging to SC/ST communities is 87.75 per cent.
