For the artist fraternity of Kolkata,Mumabi terror attacks marked a moment to rise in protest. And born the concept of Art Against Terrorism,a unique exhibition of paintings, woodwork and sculptures, across eight top galleries of the city.

“It was a collaborative effort. Since times immemorial, art has been used to raise awareness and we thought of taking up the cudgel against terrorism,” said art historian Pranab Ranjan Roy at the inauguration of an exhibition at Gallery Sanskriti on Saturday.

The exhibition sees a collaboration of over a hundred painters and sculptors.

An installation by an unnamed artist showed a blood-stained body shrouded in white, while another tried to recreate a scene of a bomb blast. “We hope these works inspire people to raise their voice,” said Roy.

The exhibition features famous names like Shuvaprasanna,Paresh Maity and Jayashri Burman, besides works of lesser known artists. “We tried to make it a democratic platform,” says Ambica Beri, director,Gallery Sanskriti.
