Tension prevailed at Binpur in West Midnapore after the murder of two persons on Friday.
While a deceased,Mangal Saren,was a member of CPM youths wing DYFI,Chandan Mahato was a leader with the Jharkhand Party (Naren),said West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma.
According to the police,Saren was killed by unidentified miscreants when he was working in a paddy field at Ergoda village.
Mahato,a resident of same area,was allegedly murdered by CPM cadres.
Belpahari CPM Zonal Committee Secretary Amiya Sengupta said six motorcycle-borne youths had reached the field where Saren was working with his father. The youths attacked him with sharp weapons and later opened fire. When the villagers chased the miscreants,they fled. Saren was taken to Jhargram hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Sengupta claimed the youths belonged to Jharkhand Party (Naren).
In the evening,around 20 people attacked Mahatos residence with weapons used by the tribals. They dragged Mahato and his father out of their house and beat them up. Chandan was later killed.
The police suspect that the group comprised CPM cadres and murdered Mahato in retaliation. Investigations are on,said the SP.
