Jaipur: Woman jumps before train as husband arrives late on Karwa-Chauth, he too dies by suicide

Before killing himself, Ghanshyam sent a message to his brother on WhatsApp informing him about his wife's suicide.

According to police, Monika left home in a fit of rage around 12.30 am with Ghanshyam following her. Shortly after that, Monika jumped in front of a moving train and died.

A woman died by suicide following which her husband hanged himself to death in shock after the couple had an argument over him coming home late on the night for Karwa-Chauth in Jaipur, police said on Monday.

The incident took place in Nangal Siras village under Harmara police station area on Sunday when Ghanshyam Bunkar (38) came home late at night leading to a verbal spat with his wife Monika (35), they said.

According to police, Monika left home in a fit of rage around 12.30 am with Ghanshyam following her. Shortly after that, Monika jumped in front of a moving train and died. Shocked, the husband returned home and hanged himself while their two children were sleeping in a separate room, the police said.

Before killing himself, Ghanshyam sent a message to his brother on WhatsApp informing him about his wife’s suicide. He wrote: “Brother, I lost, sorry! My wife got run over by a train.”

Ashok Chauhan, Dy SP Chomu circle said, “The couple were married for 15 years and they had two children. The wife was angry as the husband did not come on time for Karva-Chauth and left home in anger. Even as the husband was following her, she jumped in front of a moving train and died. Shocked, he returned home and hanged himself. The bodies have been handed over to the family members and their funeral was held on Monday evening.”

According to police, Ghanshyam worked in a network marketing company and the woman was a housewife.
