BJP’s Jaipur district president Amit Goyal on Friday created a flutter after he released a list of 34 appointments for the party’s district executive — naming not just appointees but also their political backers.

The “sifarish” column revealed endorsements from top brass including Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Deputy CMs Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, ministers, MLAs including Kalicharan Saraf, and leaders from the Sangh Parivar and ABVP. The move drew swift backlash, prompting Goyal to retract the list. Of the eight vice presidents, five were picked through political referrals, while three were chosen on the basis of “karya adhaar par” or on the basis of their work.

The three general secretaries were appointed on the recommendation of CM Sharma, “basis of their work and Parivar”, and Jaipur Lok Sabha MP Manju Sharma. A total of three appointments – one general secretary and two secretaries – have been made on CM’s recommendation, apart from one appointment, that of karyalaya mantri, on recommendation of “CM’s office.”

Similarly, Deputy CM Diya Kumari too was named next to four persons: a Vice President, two secretaries and a spokesperson. Former state president Ashok Parnami’s name too figured against a party secretary, while one secretary was appointed on the recommendation of party MLA Kailash Verma.

Other spokespersons were appointed on the recommendation of Deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa, cabinet minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, MLA Balmukund Acharya, “ABVP” and former BJP Assembly candidate Chandra Mohan Batwara. With four each, CM Sharma and deputy CM Diya Kumari figured most on the list, followed by minister Rathore and MLA Balmukund Acharya with two recommendations.

Realising the mistake, the post was swiftly deleted from Goyal’s account along with a fresh post saying that the “list of Jaipur City Executive posted on social media is not valid yet and will be formally announced after some time.”

Goyal also reportedly claimed that it was mistakenly uploaded by the computer operator. He did not respond to calls.

Goyal faced a backlash after people did not see their name on the list, or anyone from the caste on the list, and were quite unhappy following its deletion, saying that this affects the morale of party workers, some of whom were by now already exchanging sweets. One user, Bhawani Singh Rathore wrote: “Getting a post on recommendation is an insult to every worker who is working for the party from the ground level.”
