BJP, Congress optimistic over high voter turnout in civic polls

While the ruling BJP is thrilled over the high turnout, the Congress also sees it as a tide in their favour as “people wanted to express their rage against the current government.”

A day after the civic elections in Rajasthan where 129 municipalities went to polls, both BJP and Congress have started speculating on the huge turnout.

While the ruling BJP is thrilled over the high turnout, the Congress also sees it as a tide in their favour as “people wanted to express their rage against the current government.”

According to Congress, such a massive turnout is a sign that the people are fed up with the government. Congress state president Sachin Pilot instructed municipal incharges and office-bearers to keep an eye on the counting and observe the voting procedure for chairpersons. Pilot has already written a letter to the state election commission requesting that measures be taken to ensure transparency in the poll process. He also raised concern that BJP might use its power during counting of votes and election of municipal chairpersons.
