BJP, Congress optimistic over high voter turnout in civic polls

According to Congress, such a massive turnout is a sign that the people are fed up with the government. Congress state president Sachin Pilot instructed municipal incharges and office-bearers to keep an eye on the counting and observe the voting procedure for chairpersons. Pilot has already written a letter to the state election commission requesting that measures be taken to ensure transparency in the poll process. He also raised concern that BJP might use its power during counting of votes and election of municipal chairpersons.

Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi said the BJP has not been able to fulfil the promises it made to the public.

Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma said the failure of BJP to achieve its goals in the past one-and-a half-years has alienated the public.

Meanwhile, the BJP said that like last elections, this time too the public have voted for development. State BJP president Ashok Parnami said that people were impressed by the development schemes implemented by the central and state government.

State BJP secretary Ashok Lahoti claimed that the people have once again recognized the work done by the government and the huge turnout was symbolic of it.

According to Lahoti, the Congress could not even get the desired candidates in their regions. In most municipalities, the contest was between BJP and Independents while the Congress had fallen to the third spot, he claimed.
