The ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana and the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) have locked horns once again, this time over Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s speech on Sunday where he asked people to “throw Congress into the Bay of Bengal”.

“It is the BRS that people will throw away. During my padayatra, people are meeting me and sharing their woes. The BRS government is snatching land from poor people on the pretext of development. BRS legislators and leaders are using the local police to harass people, especially those who are not their supporters. When Congress comes to power, we will return all the lands taken away by the BRS government,” Congress Legislative Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said.

Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir accused the BRS government of indulging in corruption in the construction and allotment of 2-BHK units to weaker sections and staged a protest, along with hundreds of Congress activists, after inspecting the units at Tekriyal in Kamareddy district. He demanded a high-level enquiry into the project, alleging that it was hijacked by BRS leaders for personal gains.

“BRS MLAs allotted the houses to their followers and those who paid huge bribes of lakhs of rupees. The eligible homeless families were completely ignored and none of them got a single 2-BHK house. We demand stern action against these irregularities and call for a re-selection process to identify deserving beneficiaries,” Shabbir said.

Shabbir also criticised the BRS for conducting a biased selection process that favoured ineligible individuals and demanded the establishment of clear guidelines for identifying eligible individuals, with priority given to widows, single women, and disabled people.

BRS MLC K Kavitha, the daughter of CM Rao, hit back at the Congress leaders. “I dare the Congress leaders to visit any household in any of Telangana’s villages and enquire about CM KCR’s schemes. Telangana’s schemes are being adopted by the Centre and other states across India, that is the testimony of CM KCR’s vision. CM KCR not only understands the plight of minorities but has taken several measures to safeguard them,” she said.

Kavitha also slammed the Opposition for accusing the KCR government of not doing anything for the people of the state. She challenged Opposition leaders to visit any household in Telangana and check if people have been enrolled as beneficiaries in some scheme or the other of the BRS government.
