Senior BJP leader Chandrasekhar quits party in Telangana, set to return to Congress
In his resignation letter to state BJP president G Kishan Reddy, Chandrasekhar wrote that the dreams of farmers and unemployed youth remain unfulfilled even after a decade of the state’s creation.

Senior Telangana BJP leader A Chandrasekhar quit the party Saturday over long-standing issues and may return to the Congress fold soon. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy met with the leader Sunday and said he accepted the invitation to rejoin the party.
Chandrasekhar represented the Vikarabad Assembly constituency for five terms from 1985 to 2009 in undivided Andhra Pradesh. After representing Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for four terms, he joined Telangana Rasthra Samithi (now Bharat Rashrta Samithi) in 2004, won again and became a minister in the Congress-led government in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He lost in 2009 and joined the Congress in 2013 and then the BJP in 2020.

Reddy said Chandrasekhar played an active role in achieving separate statehood for Telangana in 2014. “He believed in BJP and joined them to fight the corrupt and autocratic rule of KCR. He was let down. BJP and BRS are the same. Now as part of coming together of anti-KCR political forces, we have invited him to join us,” Revanth posted on Twitter.
In his resignation letter to state BJP president G Kishan Reddy, Chandrasekhar wrote that the dreams of farmers and unemployed youth remain unfulfilled even after a decade of the state’s creation.
He said many leaders of the statehood movement joined BJP thinking that the party at the Centre would bring justice to the state and take on the anti-people policies of the state. Despite being aware of the misgovernance in the state, the Centre failed to question the BRS-led Telangana government’s failures, he added.
Reddy on Saturday launched the Congress’s new campaign “Thiragabadam-Tarimikodadam” (meaning Fight against – drive away), a people’s court against the BRS government. “During the movement, KCR said water, funds and appointments… But he did not fulfil the promises in the nine years…..he is curbing the rights of the people. KCR’s attacks on people are worse than those of kings and dictators,” Reddy said.
Alleging that the government failed in ensuring social justice, Reddy asked the party leaders and cadre to take the initiative to every corner of the state. As a part of this, the Congress party plans to organise meetings in 12,000 villages and 3,000 divisions. Party leaders and cadre will go door to door and meet 75 lakh families across the state.
