The BJP will form the government in Telangana this year as the people of the state want to dislodge Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday. Elections are due in the southern state later this year.

Shah was addressing a public meeting titled “Vijay Sankalp Sabha” at Chevella on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

“Don’t you think it is time for the BJP to come to power in Telangana? We are ready and will form our government in Telangana after winning elections this year,’’ Shah told the gathering.

On Rao’s expansion plans, Shah said the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) chief was dreaming of becoming the Prime Minister but the dream will not be fulfilled as the post was “not vacant”.

“KCR, in 2024 also Narendra Modi is going to become PM with full majority,” Shah said. “Before that there will be a trailer… People of Telangana want to dislodge KCR and BRS,” Shah added.

In Hyderabad, Shah was received  by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and BJP Telangana chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Referring to Kumar, who was accused in the SSC exam question paper leak case, Shah said: “Why do you think Bandi Sanjay was arrested? He exposed a scam. KCR arrested him because he is afraid of Bandi Sanjay.”

While elections are due in Karnataka next month, BJP sources said Shah has asked the party’s Telangana leaders to work hard to ensure the party puts up a good fight. “He told us to keep up the pressure on the BRS government to order an inquiry into the Telangana State Public Service Commission exam paper leak case; unemployment; farmers distress; crop loss,” Reddy said.
