Assam govt fixes minimum wages for loading, unloading

The Assam government has fixed the minimum wages for workers employed in loading and unloading in the entire state. The Labour Welfare Department has issued a notification fixing the minimum rate of wages in different categories, a release said. A decision to this effect was taken after taking into considerations the recommendation of a committee constituted on June 22, 2015 and recommendation of the Advisory Board constituted on July 12, 2017.

In addition to the fixed minimum wages, the workers/employees shall be entitled to Variable Dearness Allowance. Moreover, the workers/ employees are entitled to a day of rest in every week as per existing provision under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the release added.
