Three weeks after polls,PUSU protests against inaction of students’ council

Students of Panjab University Students' Union (PUSU) protested outside the Vice-Chancellor's office on Wednesday.

Students of Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) protested outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Wednesday.

The protesters rued that even though three weeks had passed since the PUCSC elections were conducted, students were yet to see any student-friendly decision being taken by the new students’ council.

They demanded construction of a large reading hall with a sitting capacity of 1,000 in the girls’ hostels. “The procedure to pass the proposal of construction should be brought in at the earliest as it will eventually solve the problem of lack of sitting capacity at the AC Joshi Library, and also will be a boon for the girls residing in university hostels.

They also demanded renovation of washrooms and toilets in boys’ hostels, and revival of M Phil in the Hindi Department. Sanjeev Sharma,PUSU working president, said,“These are basic issues which the authorities must address as soon as possible, and the students’ council should also take up the matter”.

Senior PUSU leaders, including chairperson Jeevanjyot Chahal and party incharge Sumit Goklaney, were also present.
