A 20-year-old labourer was killed after a concrete mixture truck toppled and crushed him at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium revamp site on Tuesday afternoon. Two others were injured in the incident,the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil. The police said he came from Dumka district in Jharkhand.
The incident was reported just after noon,when the mixture truck fell sideways after soil under it gave way. A bystander called the police at 12.20 pm,an officer said.
Ten workers were erecting concrete piers of a boundary wall at the construction site the stadium is being revamped for next years Commonwealth Games.
Lodhi Colony police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence against the driver and contractor. The trucks driver and helper have been detained.
A senior officer said,The mixture truck was positioned on the edge a tunnel of about 10 feet. The soil was soft and caved in and the truck fell on the workers. The deceased,Sunil,got stuck under the truck.
A police team took out Sunil and the two others identified as Nepal (40) and Muktilal (45) and rushed them to AIIMS trauma centre,the officer said. Sunil was declared dead on arrival.
The other two were discharged after treatment on Wednesday evening, the officer said.
According to another officer,all three worked for the Delhi-based construction company Arora Constructions,which had won the contract to build the stadiums boundary wall.
The police have confiscated the concrete mixture truck,which belongs to UltraTech Company,and further investigations are on.
