With a little more than a year left for the 2010 Commonwealth Games,Newsline takes a look at the pace of development work at major Games venues in the city
* The Talkatora Indoor Stadium,according to officials,will be the first Games venue to open for use. Work at the stadium will be completed by October 8 this year.
* A world-class boxing venue with a seating capacity of around 3,000 spectators is being developed at the Talkatora Stadium.
* 55 per cent of the work at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held is complete. It will be ready for use by March 2010.
* A thin tensile membrane roof is being brought in from Queensland to cover the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The energy-efficient roof will cover an area of 55,000 sq metre
* 45 per cent work on upgrading the Karni Singh Shooting Range,one of the smallest projects,is complete. Authorities say it will be ready before December 2009.
* There will be three temperature-controlled swimming pools at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex,which will be ready to use by January next year.
* The Indira Gandhi Stadium will host four events: cycling,archery,wrestling and gymnastics. According to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD),55 per cent work has been completed at the stadium.
* A hostel and Media Center,catering to 150 people,is also being built at the IG Stadium.
* The Delhi University Rugby Ground is one of the venues where work is lagging far behind. A mere 35 percent of renovation work has been completed. The rugby field will have a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
* 60 per cent of the work at Thyagaraj Complex has already over. The venue will be ready for use by September this year.
* At the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium,the CPWD is increasing the seating capacity to about 25,000 spectators. The stadium will be ready by December this year.
