Screengrab from the video doing the rounds on social media. A woman was severely injured after a Pitbull attacked her outside her house in the Swaroop Nagar area of Delhi on Friday. According to the police, the woman, Riya Devi, who works as a doctor at a local clinic, had objected to the dog peeing and defecating outside her house when its owner allegedly unleashed it on her.
As per Devi’s complaint, she was standing outside her house on Friday afternoon when she saw the Pitbull defecating. She also alleged she was chased and the dog bit her multiple times.
A video of the incident shows the woman standing outside a house and the dog near her. After a while, it is seen jumping on her and attacking her. Residents are then seen rushing to help her and removing the dog. The owner is later seen taking the Pitbull inside.
The police said the dog owner also pushed Devi to the ground. They said she suffered injuries to her hands, legs, and face, and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The police have registered a case against the owner under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animals). The owner was also detained and released later.
The woman and other residents alleged the owner allowed the Pitbull to defecate in front of other’s houses and that the dog had previously attacked children. The police said they are probing the allegations.
