A day after the Delhi High Court directed the police not to arrest an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) – an accused in a case pertaining to the murder of his nephew’s wife in London – for three weeks, the ASI joined the Delhi Police investigation on Saturday.

The ASI, who has been suspended, had been missing since March 18. On April 1, a sessions court had refused to grant anticipatory bail to the ASI, following which the HC had given him interim protection from arrest for three weeks.

The court of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna had granted the interim protection while hearing an anticipatory bail plea moved by the ASI, who is the uncle of the husband – the main accused in the case.

The woman’s family had filed a complaint at the Palam village police station accusing her husband, in-laws and other relatives, of cruelty and demanding dowry.

The police said the ASI’s wife and niece remain absconding and raids have been conducted in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in search of them.

An officer said the ASI was first asked to join the probe on Saturday and then again on Sunday. His cellphone has been sent to the forensics science laboratory for examination.
