The FIR is based on a complaint filed by Nikki’s sister Kanchan, who is married to Rohit, police said. While Kanchan initially took Nikki to Noida’s Fortis Hospital, she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Police said she died on her way to Safdarjung Hospital on August 21.

Additional Deputy Commiss-ioner of Police (Greater Noida) Sudhir Kumar said, “The Kasna police was informed of the death by Fortis Hospital on August 21.”

In her complaint to the police, Kanchan has alleged that she and Nikki got married to the two brothers in 2016.

Raj Singh, Nikki’s uncle, told The Indian Express, “The family was given a Scorpio car and other gifts during the wedding. But still, after the marriage, they started demanding Rs 36 lakh as dowry. Nikki and Kanchan’s family gave them another car, but they kept asking for more.”
In her complaint, Kanchan has alleged that Vipin and his mother tortured Nikki often. “When I would intervene, they would beat me too in front of her, my husband, father-in-law, and our children. The matter was often taken to the panchayat but the harassment did not stop,” she claimed.
