Woman found with throat slit in Chandni Mahal

Police are questioning the victim’s husband. The couple had been on the verge of getting a divorce, police said.

A woman was found with her throat slit and her head battered early on Saturday morning in Central district’s Chandni Mahal area. Police are questioning the victim’s husband. The couple had been on the verge of getting a divorce, police said.

“Saima (24) was found murdered in her house. The landlady discovered the body and raised an alarm around 8 am. Her body was taken for an autopsy. Her husband is being questioned and a case under Section 302 (murder) has been registered. The weapons, a pair of scissors and a pan were also recovered from the crime scene,” a senior police officer said.

Saima’s relatives, who live nearby, heard the news and called police. “Their marriage had run into rough waters after their daughter was born.  Saima wanted to end the marriage, but her husband refused to give her a divorce. They had been fighting for the last two years. They had a serious fight yesterday as well. We helped them settle the matter after which he went out. He came back after 12 am,” Liaquat, Saima’s uncle, said.
