If you are looking for some pretty art for your walls, photographer Sumantra Banerjees collection of travel photographs printed on canvas, may just be what you need. The images range from the minimalist and bleak landscape of trees submerged in flood plains to picturesque landscapes in Arizona, humpbacked whales frolicking in the water and a panoramic view of Big Ben in London.
Banerjee,50,who is a camera buff, has a full-time job as one of Kolkata Inc.s most high-profile CEOs. He heads the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) apart from steering RPG groups power and retail business but is always armed with his Nikon D700. Between clicking deals with Greenfield Thermal,he sneaks time off to go and shoot in the African wilderness and as far as the North Pole. Banerjee has a vast collection of high resolution photographs, that, when printed on canvas, will leave one wondering if it is a painting or a photograph. After he held his first exhibition of HP prints in 2009,this is his second solo show at Seven Art Limited, that concluded on September 15. The exhibition can also be viewed online at http://www.dreamoncanvas.com and http://www.betterphoto.com.
I have been working with high resolution photographs and have developed the product to a point where I can print canvases up to 40×40 inches in a square shape or 4×30 inches in a rectangular shape. Running CESC is what I do for a living, but photography is what sustains me, says Banerjee. The canvases, which are available in a limited edition of two,are priced between Rs 6000 and Rs 42,000 and are archival prints covered with a layer of lacquer that will protect them against dust. EFS
