Anna caps
The Gandhi topis with the I am Anna slogan seems to be selling the most during this protest season. We sell a headband with Chak de India! and I love India printed on it for Rs 10. One can buy a Tricolour badge with Annas picture for Rs 20. But the best business comes from the caps with I am Anna scrawled on them in black ink, costing Rs 10, said Aarti,a vendor. Sohanlal, who has come from Khader village in MP only to sell Anna caps, said he sold more than 150 caps in two hours. Caps are popular among men as well as women, he said.
The Tricolour
Sharbati, who belongs to Rajasthan and lives in Old Delhi with her family, said she had 60 flags,of which 25 were sold within an hour. Three miniature Indian flags also cost Rs 10, said Aarti. Demonstrators were also seen carrying large India flags. Manoj Hari Krishnan said he had bought the India flag for Rs 60 from a bookseller in Badarpur. Another demonstrator bought the Tricolour for Rs 100 from Khadi Gram Udyog. At Rajghat, they were selling it for Rs 150, he said.
T-shirt bargain
Many sported I am Anna and India Against Corruption T-shirts,which were available inside Ramlila Maidan. The same T-shirt costs Rs 120 outside Tihar Jail. I got it from here for Rs 110, said Tarun Kalra,a DU student.
Not for profit
Vendors selling Hazare merchandise said though the profit-margin was not much, this was their way of contributing to the protest against corruption. Traders at Sadar Bazaar sell us 100 flags for Rs 45. They charge Rs 2 for a wrist-band,Rs 3 per badge,Rs 4 per headband and Rs 5 per cap. We then sell them at a little higher price to make some profit. We have sold 80 out of 100 caps in the past one hour. 50 headbands out of a set of 60 have also been sold, said Rajesh,a vendor. Suppliers at Sadar Bazaar said production of these products has been increased to feed the demand.
