Wanted criminal gunned down in Noida encounter

A Wanted criminal was killed during an encounter in Noida on Saturday evening while trying to escape from a police check-point near the Noida Expressway.

A Wanted criminal was killed during an encounter in Noida on Saturday evening while trying to escape from a police check-point near the Noida Expressway.

The police said the incident occurred at 4.30 pm when the police stopped the criminal,identified as Salim,at a check-point in Sector 91. On being asked to produce the documents of the car,he allegedly opened fire on the police. The police officials retaliated in which Salim was gunned down.

The police added Salim was travelling in a stolen Wagon R car,owned by one Vivek Verma from Nehru Vihar area of Ghaziabad. An AK-47 was also recovered.

“Salim had been arrested earlier and had confessed to his involvement in over 100 criminal cases. He was involved in several crimes in Uttar Pradesh as well. There was a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on him,” a senior officer said.
