Gone are the days when gardeners cringed at the flower pots holding their prized plants. The shabby red earthen pots never did justice to the pruned and pampered green plants. A Delhi firm set about making things better. Yuccabe Italia, owned by Kuldeep Kalsi,is among the few Delhi addresses where one can find beautifully crafted planters that are also easy to maintain, lightweight and come in multiple options.
From malls in Delhi to private farmhouses and plush offices,Kalsis planters are in high demand. Architects pack in tall palms and blossoming stems in them. Among the places where one can see our planters is Select City Walk mall, which gave us a big platform last year when we decked up their venue with our planters, says Kalsi,55,who left his job as a chief manager at a bank to pursue his passion for pottery.

When people pay Rs 1,000 per sq ft for stylish Italian marble flooring, they dont want ugly pots, he adds. Most commercial venues now want a patch of green,so why not do it in style? says Kalsi, whose manufacturing unit in west Delhi imports raw materials from France and Germany. The planters come in stone finishing and you can get them painted (for an extra sum of Rs 3,000 a litre). The size ranges from small to very large and can hold from 8 cubic ft of soil to 80 cubic ft. I recently put together several six-and-a-half ft high planters for a builder in Faridabad, who has put palm trees in them, he adds.
