In late 1980s,when haute couture was in its nascent stage, designer Ravi Bajaj introduced it to the Indian fashion market through his first store in Defence Colony.

If his previous stores were minimalist in design, the new one,The Ravi Bajaj Boutique, which opened recently at The Galleria located on MG Road,is quite a departure from this trend.

The boutique, larger than its predecessors, sprawls over 2,300 square feet and celebrates the designer’s 25 years in the fashion world. It quintessentially has an Indian collection, which boasts of exquisite saris, lehengas, sherwanis and other unisex ethnic wear. “It’s a heavily embellished line-up. This is different from my usual style, which is more toned down,” said Bajaj, who has slotted the official store launch for later this month.

The look of the store is opulent and luxurious. Dominated by purple and gold,it exudes a royal feel with its gilded mirror frames, chandeliers,Persian rugs and silk velvet upholstery. The racks look different too. The display bar is held by two mannequins, that hold the two ends. The boutique also has two large fitting rooms with Persian silk rugs and gilded benches, almost making them private dressing areas for the clients.
