Two persons have been arrested for allegedly murdering a jeweller during a robbery at his shop in Krishna Nagar,East Delhi,a month ago,police said.
The accused,identified as Mohammad Sabir and Mohammed Anis,were arrested from Lucknow for allegedly shooting Gaurav Gambhir of Gambhir Jewellers in Krishna Nagar on the evening of February 23. Police said that before committing the crime,the accused had conducted a recce of Gambhirs shop with one of their female accomplices posing as a customer.
Gambhirs murder had evoked strong reactions in the area,with local residents staging protests and blocking roads. An initial investigation suggested that such a crime could have been carried out by persons familiar with the location,considering that the shop is situated in a very densely populated market with multiple entry and exit points, said O P Mishra,DCP (East).
During an investigation,police received a tip-off on two members,who were residing in Lucknow and Moradabad. They also discovered that the duo were in possession of a car with UP registration. Investigators tracked down the owner of the car,who said he had sold the vehicle to Sabir. Following this,both the accused were arrested.
