Trying to douse flames,fire official dies

A Delhi fire department official died while 21 others were injured when a fire broke out in a house in Vishwas Nagar,East Delhi.

A Delhi fire department official died while 21 others were injured when a fire broke out in a house in Vishwas Nagar,East Delhi on Wednesday.

The house-owner,Sumer Chand Jain,had rented the basement to a tyre manufacturing unit,the ground-floor to a electric wire manufacturing unit and first-floor to a family. A case has been registered under 304 A (causing death by negligence). Forensic experts are trying to know the cause of the fire.

Around 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. As the fire department and the police were trying to break a portion of the lintel of the ground floor,the shutter of the basement exploded,injuring fire officer Nand Kishore Tiwari (59) and others. Tiwari died on his way to hospital while five fire officials,four police officers,one disaster management officer,one BSES officer and a local received injuries.

Tiwari had been working with the Delhi Fire Services for 25 years. Fire Services Chief R C Sharma said,“His family will be given Rs 10 lakh from the Delhi government,Rs 50,000 from department and Rs 5 lakh from Fire Services Insurance fund. We will also give a job to a relative.”
