While his wife Maria Goretti was confident he’d bag it,the actor confessed that having been in the industry for so long,he had lost faith in awards until now. “Who wouldn’t?” he quipped,before adding,“But this is special because I still remember that my first award function and stage performance was at the Screen Awards back in 1997.”

She was not there in person to receive the award but theatre actor Shernaz Patel says she is hugely moved and honoured since it’s her first award in the industry. “It’s especially percious because I won it for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film,” says the actor,who bagged the award for her portrayal of a lawyer supporting euthenasia in Guzaarish.

Recently,when he returned to films with Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan,he ended up bagging the award for Best Actor in a Negative Role. “I need time for this to sink in,” stammered the overwhelmed actor. Recovering after a while,he confessed,“I had expected everyone but me to win this award.”
