The new-look Bonsai introduces a menu low on calories

After a quick makeover,Bonsai,a pan-Asian restaurant at Connaught Place, has opened its doors. The 100-cover diner still looks deceptively small from the outside, but the freshly whitewashed walls now give the interiors a roomy uplift. The open-air section is beautifully done up with subtle yellow lighting, and flowing white tapestry lend a romantic edge to the outdoor area.

The kitchen has fine-tuned its pan-Asian fare with grills and Asian tapas. Giving a healthy tweak to the menu, some dishes have gone low on starch and oil. From the well-stocked bar,you can choose a sparkling Bellini or a flute of tangy mimosa (Rs 450 each).

Begin the meal with Bonsai Laska (Rs 225) that serves a steaming concoction of prawns, ham and crab meat cooked with noodles in coconut cream in coconut shell. For something to nibble on,there is Chinatown Salsa (Rs 99) with fried vegetable wontons paired with salsa with an oriental twang. You can also ask for foto maki rolls or a nigiri sushi. Served in pairs, these are priced upward Rs 99. The menu also lists a selection of small plates from the grill. Pick from mushroom and leek skewers with teriyaki sauce (Rs 175),kingfish steaks with garlic (Rs 225) or cumin lamb skewers (Rs 225) — the options are plenty and each is done to perfection.
