To get back at son-in-law, Ranchi man sent extortion message to MoS Sanjay Seth; arrested
Police sources said Ansari sent the message to teach his son-in-law a lesson.

Days after Ranchi MP and Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth received an extortion message demanding Rs 50 lakh, a 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case. The accused, Ranchi resident Minajul Ansari, was nabbed Monday morning and is being brought to Delhi under transit remand, said a senior police officer.
Police sources said Ansari sent the message to teach his son-in-law a lesson.
According to a police source, on Friday at 7 pm, the minister received the extortion message and alerted the Barakhamba Road police station, prompting a swift investigation led by SHO Mahavir Singh. Police traced the phone number to Ranchi and subsequently arrested Ansari.
During questioning, police said Ansari admitted that a family matter was behind his crime. He claimed his son-in-law accused his daughter of having an affair and confronted Ansari about it, causing a scene.
Humiliated, Ansari claimed he was furious and left the house with his daughter. Later, he decided to take revenge. Police said the accused used the phone and SIM card, that his son-in-law bought in his name for his daughter, to send the message to the minister.
“The accused wanted to take revenge on his son-in-law. He used the phone and SIM card purchased by the son-in-law to send the threat,” claimed the police source.
The source claimed the accused sent a similar text to a Jharkhand MLA, but “the latter never checked it”.
