A 25-year-old software engineer was found dead outside his apartment building in East Delhis Pandav Nagar area early Monday morning. Police are questioning his female companion who had been living with him for the past few months.
On the basis of the statement of the woman, the lone witness to the incident, police claimed that the man fell from the third floor of their D-56 apartment,a rented accommodation in Pandav Nagar, after a brief physical and verbal altercation between the two.
Whether he was pushed or he committed suicide or had an accidental death was still a matter of investigation, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Prabhakar said,We have sought opinions from the autopsy surgeon and the forensic wing on the exact nature of the death.
According to police, the victim,Sourabh, was an engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT),Mesra near Ranchi. He had been living in a rented accommodation in Katwaria Sarai for the past one and a half years.
Four months ago,he and his companion moved into D-56,Pandav Nagar. However, police said Sourabh came to the house only twice a week.
The woman is a law graduate from Delhi University and is presently working with a legal process outsourcing firm in Noida, police said.
Police received a PCR call around 1 am Monday from a person claiming to be the womans friend. According to police, the woman perhaps panicked after the incident and instead of calling the police, called her friend and an ambulance.
In her statement to police, the woman claimed that she returned from a party at 10.30 pm on Sunday to find Sourabh in the living room. The two then had a verbal and physical altercation. She alleged that Sourabh tried forcing himself on her, said a police officer.
Following this, the woman asked Sourabh to leave the house. Sourabh slapped her and she ran out. He called her back and said they would settle the matter. She agreed and went back to the house but Sourabh slapped her again. This time she ran downstairs and claimed that the next thing she saw was that Sourabh had fallen from the building, the officer said.
Police took Sourabh to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Police said there were no external injury marks on the body. The nature of death can be ascertained only after the postmortem examination, an officer said.
Sourabhs family members alleged foul play. We were informed by police on Monday morning. I spoke to Sourabh every day but he never mentioned anything about a woman, said Sourabhs father Bajrang Lal Aggarwal,a businessman in Ranchi.
We had no idea that Sourabh was living with a girl. Sourabh was not depressed. He was an IAS aspirant and had left his job in Noida ten days ago. He wanted to do well in his career. There is some foul play, said Kishan Lal,Sourabhs uncle.
