8-storey building, multi-level parking: PM Modi launches Gurgaon railway station revamp project
The design of the building is planned to reflect the local culture, heritage and architecture as well as provide modern facilities to the passengers by ensuring universal access to the railway station.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation for upgrading the Gurgaon railway station — under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme — via video conferencing. The project cost has been estimated at Rs 300 crore.
The design of the building is planned to reflect the local culture, heritage and architecture as well as provide modern facilities to the passengers by ensuring universal access to the railway station, said officials.
The proposed development of the Gurgaon railway station includes the construction of a new main station building (ground plus eight floors) and a roof plaza or air concourse. The roof plaza will connect from both sides of the track, providing access from both primary and secondary sides. The station’s external development will include access and exit from the road, pick and drop points, canopies, and green spaces.
Rao Inderjit Singh, Union minister of state and Gurgaon MP, said that three floors in the new eight-storey building will be utilised for railway purposes, one floor will be dedicated for various facilities to the passengers, and the remaining four floors be kept for commercial uses including different amenities such as cafes, etc.
Plans for a dedicated multi-level car parking (basement plus stilt plus 4) on the arrival plaza, with state-of-the-art security systems are also in place, along with development works such as removal of the cement shed at Rajendra Park.
Addressing the programme, Singh said that the work on railway projects worth Rs 20,000 crore was underway in Haryana, with the state receiving Rs 2,750 crore for railway development in the new interim budget.
Singh said that significant development in the railway infrastructure has taken place over the past decade, under PM Modi’s leadership, unlike with previous governments, where railway budgets were predominantly allocated to the rail minister’s region or states, leaving places like Haryana neglected.
On Monday, Modi announced the redevelopment of 554 railway stations, and 1,500 road overbridges and underpasses across the country.
