While overall,the fashion frat seems happy that for once the focus is on the fashion (such as it is) rather than on famous faces,we miss the buzz celebrities bring to Lakme Fashion Week. Manish Malhotra’s show was of course crowded with celebrities — actors Priyanka Chopra,Preity Zinta,Rani Mukerji and Urmila Matondkar were in attendance,besides Birkin-addict Anu Dewan,who has otherwise chosen to keep a low profile this year. In fact,even fashion fiend Queenie Singh has stayed away this year. Also spotted was Sonakshi Sinha,who walked for Narendra Kumar’s collection with Killer Jeans,which was a good thing because the girl provided the pizzazz that the collection so sorely lacked — despite the rakishly tilted trilbies. A suspiciously stiff-about-the-nose Nandana Sen walked for Digvijay Singh. Some surprising turns were provided by music composer duo Salim and Suleiman Merchant who walked for Shyamal and Bhumika along with Sunidhi Chauhan,and Shaan who sang and walked the ramp for Troy Costa. But the biggest buzz was created by Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan,who turned up for Nachiket Barve’s show,throwing the photographers into a mad scramble.
