Setting a possible precedent for Delhi University,St Stephens College announced admission cut-offs for eight subjects on Thursday. This year,the college’s cut-offs saw a rise over last year from 0.25 to 1 per cent in most subjects.
Like last year,the highest jump was seen in Philosophy 5.5 per cent for students who studied Humanities in Class XII. The cut-off range for general category students for Philosophy fell into the 95 to 96 per cent bracket.
Among the popular courses,English and Economics saw a rise of 0.25 to 1 per cent. In English,the cut-off for Commerce students remained at 98 per cent. For Humanities,the percentage rose to 97 per cent from last years 96.
Economics too saw a slight increase in cut-offs the figure climbing from 97.75 per cent in 2012 to 98 per cent this year.
The cut-off percentages for sciences and mathematics have also been stepped-up marginally this year.
Chemistry cut-offs went up from last years 95 per cent to 96 this year. Physics saw a 0.67 per cent increase from 95.66 to 96.33.
Mathematics,on the other hand,saw a 3 per cent rise in cut off for Humanities students from last years 91.5 to 94.5 per cent this year.
The History cut-off has been increased by 1 per cent for Commerce students to 97 per cent. For Science students,it is 96.5 per cent against last years 96. For humanities students,the cut-off rose by 0.75 per cent to stand at 95.25.
Separate cut-offs have been released for students of SC,ST,PWD,Christian and Urdu categories. The college received more than 25,000 applications for 410 under-graduate seats this year.
College officials said the cut-off percentage reflected the high Class XII marks. The college has announced the cut-offs on the basis of the applications received, Karen Gabriel,spokesperson for the college,said. Stephens will release its interview list on June 22.
