The Indigo Children have entered the building. They tune their guitars and turn up their amps. The music is loud but that’s good news for the folks running Sound Station,Delhi’s first official “jamming studio”. The louder and clearer the sound is,the better the job done, feel Ritnika Nayan Shrivastva and Sushmit Mazumdar, the brains behind the initiative. In last summer’s cult hit Rock On!!!,the first glimpse of Magique the band was when they turn on the lights and their amps in a run-down basement. As romantic as it looked,in reality a practice pad cannot be just anywhere. “Most rehearsal spaces in Delhi are small, not sound proofed and don’t have good equipment. Our idea was to provide a place that tackled all these issues so the bands in Delhi could get the best of what’s out there,” says Shrivastva,CEO,Music Gets Me High and co-founder of Sound Station. And a partnership with Furtados, one of the best music equipment companies in the capital, makes the project sound sweeter. Spread over an area of 13 ft by 22 ft,in Okhla Industrial Area Phase I,makes Sound Station the largest rehearsal space in Delhi, completely sound proof and air conditioned. “The studio has been acoustically treated by a professional sound engineer and we have great equipment thanks to our partners Furtados,” says Mazumdar who along with Shrivastva hopes that the jamming studio will develop as a hub for musicians to meet, network and collaborate with each other.

And with its roomy lounge filled with colourful couches and posters of rock legends on the wall,Sound Station is done up like a rock fan’s room, where musicians can hang out before and after practice. The other USP of the studio is that is open till very late, allowing working musicians to jam after office hours. The other lot of musicians who can benefit from the place are students. “We’ve priced our services reasonably so that Delhi University students can afford the space and avail discounts. We will also offer classes at the studio soon and open a second practice space as well as recording facilities,” says Shrivastva. Rock on.
