Police arrested six persons in two separate incidents of vehicle theft on Thursday. They recovered 11 luxury cars and SUVs,besides six smaller cars and five motorcycles,from their possession.
According to police,two persons Sachin alias Monty (20) and Neetu Saini alias Bonkey (20) were arrested from Pushpanjali for their involvement in stealing 11 luxury cars and SUVs in South Delhi. The duo were well-built and used to scare car owners and drivers. They would pretend to be passengers trying to get a lift,and target the victims when alone with them, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) A K Ojha.
During questioning,the accused revealed that they would park robbed vehicles at busy areas to prevent arousing the polices suspicions. Most of their crimes were committed while they were under the influence of alcohol,an officer said.
In a separate incident,four more vehicle thieves were arrested from various parts of South Delhi for stealing six cars and five motorcycles.
Police said Bilal (19),Farman (20),Nasir alias Furkhan (30) and Bahiduddin (30) were part of a 10-member gang. Divided in three groups,they would operate in Delhi,Haryana,Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh. While the primary group would steal the vehicles,the second one would arrange for the documents required from junkyard dealers and would tamper with chassis and engine number of robbed vehicles. The third group would try to find prospective buyers for these vehicles, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma said.
Police said the vehicles were yet to be identified.
